Trojan horse against tumors
A new therapy against all kinds of tumors was developed using a favored hacker tactic called “Trojan horse”. Even if it’s not a new tactic it is for the first time when it’s use for a good cause and is for the first time when is used in medicine.
The “Trojan horse” tactic is very simple: it uses specific nanocells which enter in the diseased cells and disarms them after that the tumor is destroyed with drugs and chemotherapy.
Australian agency who conducts the study, EnGenelC Pty Ltd, said that in the past two years, reached a 100% in terms of survival of mice on witch "Trojan horse" therapy has been applied. Researchers plan to start clinical trials on human subjects in the coming months. Tests will be held at the Peter MacCullum Cancer Center at Royal Melbourne Hospital.
This study was published in Nature Biotechnology and presents in details the new treatment. The treatment uses nanocells known as EDV (delivery vehicle - EnGenelC Delivery Vehicle), which enters the cancer cells. The first wave of EDV releases ribonucleic acid molecules (RNA), which stopped production of those proteins that make cancer cells become resistant to chemotherapy. A second wave of EDV cells then enters the cancer cell and releases within the drugs used in chemotherapy, eventually managing to destroy the tumor.
Dozens of biotech companies currently are working on various projects for handling RNA, to block those genes that produce proteins that trigger serious diseases such as cancer, blindness and AIDS.
